Assumption Day 2026, 2027 and 2028
Assumption Day on 15 August is a public holiday in Roman Catholic cantons of Switzerland. This day may see religious processions and certain other festive events in some quarters, but it’s largely a day when stores close down and people take a much needed day off work.
In 2026, Assumption Day falls on Saturday 15 August. The holiday will be on Sunday 15 August in 2027.

Assumption Day is also a day to remember one’s mother, for Mary is traditionally considered the role model of mothers and women. And mothers may well be encouraged during Assumption Day Mass to emulate Mary’s example of faith and virtue.
Another thing to consider if in Switzerland for Assumption Day events is to attend the Lucerne Festival, which celebrates classical music for a full month beginning on 17 August.
